Sweet Talk Publicity

Maggie Rose better get used to more Carrie Underwood comparisons. She’s been likened to the “Blown Away” singer for years, as the two women share some of the most powerful pipes and sassiest lyrics on country radio. And now, Rose is catching up with the Sunday Night Football theme song singer in her NFL notoriety, as well.

10 New Country Artists You Need to Know

The Potomac, Maryland native, who grew up going to Washington Redskins games, has won an Emmy for her song, “Get Ya Game On,” which she wrote for Comcast SportsNet’s coverage of the NFL team’s 2013 season. Being asked to write the song and film its music video was honor enough, she insists. (Watch the video below.) So when she got the call that she was nominated for an Emmy by the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, she was taken aback.

“I remember thinking, ‘This is so cool, but I’m a country artist,'” Rose tells Rolling Stone Country with a laugh. “I didn’t dream an Emmy would be the first award I’d be nominated for! It’s such an honor.”

But staying true to her day job, Rose couldn’t attend the Emmy ceremony because of a music festival in Georgia. So she sent her parents, Lizz and Steve Durante, in her place.

“I was on stage when the [Emmy] announcement was made,” she recalls. “I was nervous during the show, knowing I’d find out as soon as I got off stage what the results were. And I got a text from my mom and dad with a picture of them holding the Emmy. It was so cute — they had such huge smiles.”

Rose has already shot a new promotional video for the 2014 NFL season and excitedly reports that Comcast is in talks to syndicate it nationally. She’s also busy working on a new album, with Dallas Davidson and Brian Kennedy co-producing.
